How To Fight The Urge to Slack Off

In some point in your work life, there will come a time where you will be unmotivated. It can be because of a number of reasons, however, this usually leads to slacking off and falling into bad work habits. Feeling unmotivated can cause a decrease in productivity and may even hurt the company financially in the long run. Imagine paying employees who don’t do anything and just waste company resources! It’s a problem that needs to be corrected right away.

Why Do People Get The Urge To Slack Off?

Feeling unmotivated can be due to a number of factors. It can be because you don’t like your job anymore – you may be doing the same thing over and over again, and it’s getting tiresome. It can also be because you didn’t like your job in the first place as it’s tough to feel motivated when you don’t like what you’re doing. Some employees may also have the urge to slack off when they don’t have a clear idea of their job responsibilities. While having issues or bad work politics are also some of the reasons why people slack off of their job.

How To Fight The Urge to Slack Off

If you feel like you’ve been slacking off and want to change, we listed a couple of tips on how you can stay motivated and be at the top of your game:

Break Your Workload Up

Before you start working, allot a few minutes to manage your schedule and break your workloads into smaller pieces. Start with the easy things then move over to the more complicated tasks after. Once you’ve broken up your workload, you’ll most likely find your flow and get your rhythm after a couple of practice.

Establish a Goal

Just like breaking down your schedule into smaller pieces, establish a goal. What do you want to accomplish during the day or the week? List it out and make sure to focus on that goal. Keep yourself in check by making a checklist.

Eliminate Distractions

One of the causes of slacking off is distractions so prevent yourself from getting sidetracked by eliminating distractions. Set your phone to silent and ask anyone around you to refrain from disturbing you (especially if you’re working on an urgent task). Avoid social media, and limit gossiping with colleagues.

Get Comfortable

Since you’ll be working long hours, make yourself comfortable. Get proper lighting and organize your desk. Sit comfortably and have a suitable chair. Take a break every half an hour or so, walk around and do some stretches to get your blood circulating. This way, it’ll lessen your back pain as well as eye strain.

Reward Yourself

Once you’re done for the day, treat yourself for that hard work. Perhaps get a dessert or a latte. Rewarding yourself after a long day helps condition your mind or create a positive reinforcement, making you less likely slack off.
