Assets & Reliability Engineering Manager

This role oversees a small team responsible for developing and executing effective preventive maintenance plans for all facility equipment and material handling systems at a partially automated distribution center. This is a compliance-critical position that requires ensuring continual adherence to all division, corporate, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximize the operational efficiency of the distribution center and material handling equipment (MHE) while minimizing downtime.
  • Lead, train, and monitor the performance of the maintenance team.
  • Diagnose and repair error conditions in the facility to support division operations.
  • Schedule and execute ongoing preventive maintenance programs for the building and MHE.
  • Identify process improvements to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while reducing costs.
  • Ensure efficient operation of facility equipment, including HVAC, conveyor systems, and forklifts.
  • Coordinate resolutions and repairs with external maintenance professionals when needed.
  • Assist with configuration, maintenance, modifications, and system upgrades of MHE control systems, including PLC programming.
  • Assess MHE efficiency and define necessary modifications.
  • Collaborate with equipment and software vendors on design specifications and improvements.
  • Develop annual budgets for utilities, spare parts, training, and maintenance contracts.
  • Solicit and manage bids from vendors for maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, and other support contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, safety rules, and DEA regulations.
  • Maintain records for maintenance tasks, spare parts inventory, and tools.
  • Conduct building safety and security inspections.
  • Availability to work split shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call to respond to downtime events.


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Facilities/Plant Management preferred.
  • Extensive experience with startup and troubleshooting of automated distribution warehouses.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an automated distribution warehouse environment with large-volume operations.
  • Experience in developing preventive maintenance programs, disaster planning, and knowledge of chilled water systems, cooling towers, generators, fire pumps, air handling units, and rooftop air conditioning units.
  • Excellent technical and operational knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and systems.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (e.g., Trane Tracer Summit) and warehouse management systems (e.g., Manhattan Associates' PkMS) is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency in reading CAD layouts, IPB diagrams, and electrical circuitry diagrams and drawings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex automated systems controlled by computers, PLCs, and microprocessors in a high-volume work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate independently, multitask, and prioritize effectively
